Abstract

This study focuses on the application of the programming language of Python in mathematical modeling in engineering and science. Mathematical modeling refers to a process of representing phenomena of reality in the form of mathematical models through computations. The formulations created in a mathematical model are computed in order to analyze and simulate them. The Python language has become popular because it is open source, contains libraries and is computationally powerful. This research study provides an outline of the process of mathematical modeling using Python by considering some libraries, such as NumPy, SciPy, and Matplotlib. Furthermore, a comparative analysis of Python along with some other programming languages, such as MATLAB and COMSOL, is provided to compare the performance, usability and scalability. This study reveals that although there are some advantages of Python in terms of customizability, data-driven modeling and availability, there are some challenges related to its execution speed and computational effectiveness. Therefore, Python programming language is suitable for developing flexible research models.
